Jennifer Lynn-Pullman MA, RDN, LDN
Nutrition Counselor/Coach
Hello! I am a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RDN) based in Pennsylvania. I was born and raised in Philadelphia and lived there with my family until 2009 when we moved to beautiful Bucks County. I have over 13 years of experience as a nutrition counselor and am known by many of my patients as the "Food Lady."
Background/Education
In high school I became interested in nutrition. After gaining about 25 pounds in my freshman year I began a diet and exercise program, which enabled me to drop the extra weight in a healthy way. I entered Penn State as an exercise science major, but after taking my first nutrition course I was hooked! I love learning how food breaks down and its component parts work in our bodies to keep up healthy. I did not abandon exercise completely though, I was a certified fitness instructor for 10 years!
I graduated with my Bachelors of Science degree in Nutrition from the Pennsylvania State University in 1998. I obtained my (MA) Masters Degree in Nutrition Education from Immaculata University in 2004. Since becoming a Registered Dietitian in 2001 I have worked in a variety of areas.
Career
My career began in public health, working with the Women's Infant and Children (WIC) nutrition program in Philadelphia (1998-2000) prior to becoming an RD. After becoming an RD I moved into long-term care with Genesis Health Care(2001-2005) and then to clinical nutrition at Jeanes Hospital in Philadelphia (2005-2007). I have extensive experience in educating individuals and other health professionals. From 2004-2011, I was an adjunct faculty member for the Nursing Department of Holy Family University. In 2012 I co-founded Eat Right Bucks County in Doylestown PA. Since 2007 I have had the opportunity to work with individuals undergoing bariatric surgery. I am currently the Bariatric Dietitian for the Einstein Bariatric Surgery Program at Einstein Elkins Park. I am also the dietitian for Crossroads Hospice based in Plymouth Meeting PA.
In addition to being an RD, I am a wife and mommy of two children. I have first hand experience regarding nutrition during pregnancy and lactation. Both of my children were nursed, my son for two years and my daughter for 1 year. My children, both picky eaters, have definitely challenged everything I know about eating.
Weight Loss
As a mommy I spent a lot of time taking care of everyone but myself. In 2009 I found myself 40 pounds overweight. Yes, dietitians have the same struggles everyone else has! I began to pay attention to what I was eating, keeping a food journal, and taking time out for me to exercise and lost 30 pounds. Since then I have struggled like many of my clients with maintaining weight loss through injury. I know how hard it is to lose weight and keep it off. As we get older and our kids get older it doesn't get any easier to take care of ourselves. Your family needs you to be healthy, so don't let you health take a backseat!
I love to run, power walk, swim, and practice yoga. In 2011 I completed the Philadelphia Half Marathon with my husband.
Philosophy
I believe that healthy eating does not need to be difficult or expensive. I can give you the tools and knowledge to make eating healthy simple. I can help you feel better, stronger, and help you achieve your health goals while being "nourished simply"! With a little education you will be empowered to make good food choices for yourself and your family.
I have experience working in various health care settings with the following issues: Weight Management, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease, Nutritional Care of Bariatric Surgery Patients, GI Issues, Cancer, Pregnancy, Lactation, and Sports Nutrition.
